Meet Your Ambassador Leadership Council

May 15, 2020

At the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year, the Ambassador Program underwent a metamorphosis, transitioning from a standard meeting format to one following parliamentary procedure. The purpose is to establish a level of professional leadership training for Ophelia Ambassadors to learn the importance of goal setting, efficient decision-making and effective communication. A Chair, two Vice-Chairs, and two Secretaries were selected for this inaugural year. Voting for these positions will commence with the 2020/2021 school year.

Ambassador Leadership Council Board members for 2019/2020 are:

Chair: Angela Miranda, COD (2018/2019 Ambassador and Scholarship recipient)

First Vice-Chair: Kenya Tirado-Ruiz, Rancho Mirage High School

Second-Vice Chair: Karen Soto, La Quinta High School

First Secretary: Samantha Lezama, Palm Desert High School

Second Secretary: Alizaeh (Ally) Perez, La Quinta High School

Under this new format, meetings are called to order and adjourned by the Chair or a Vice-Chair in the Chair’s absence, Agenda items are discussed with motions and votes when appropriate, and the Secretaries take Minutes. Events are proposed, discussed, and voted on.

One of the benefits of being a part of the Ambassador Leadership Council include special events held just for Leadership Council, with the latest being a presentation by Pattie Grimm, author of “Women Kicking Glass”, which was an amazing and inspirational two hour training on how to be an empowered woman leader.

Special Note with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic: Although this pandemic has temporarily impacted ‘in-person’ Leadership Council meetings and events, regular meetings continue via Zoom. Planning is also underway for events scheduled in the upcoming school year.

On behalf of the Ambassador Leadership Council and Ophelia Project staff, please keep following the directions of our local and state leaders as well as the advice of medical experts. It is important that we all stay safe and healthy because we have a very important job ahead of us, and we are looking forward to working in person with Ophelia’s wonderful, smiling faces soon.
