An Innovative Approach…

Healthy Steps is a new approach to primary health care! Trained Child Development Specialist and Associates have joined the Well Care Clinic’s pediatric team and are available to provide parents with information and support regarding their young children, from birth up to three years of age. This unique approach combines traditional medical care with education regarding child growth and development as part of a child’s total health care. We at the Well Care Clinic are proud to offer this opportunity to you, the parents and children of the Coachella Valley.

A Team Effort

When you and your child come to the Well Care Clinic for a medical check-up, a member of the Healthy Steps Program will sit down with you to hear about your baby’s newest accomplishments. The team member will also listen to questions or concerns you may have about your baby’s development, behavior or temperament and will work with you to find solutions. As a team, we collaborate with your child’s pediatrician to assure that your child’s health and medical needs are always considered as part of their total care plan.

“Healthy Steps provides an opportunity to maximize the baby’s potential growth and development by providing information, guidance and support for the child and family. We find that families get stronger because they are equipped with information; happier because they know other people care about them; and are more focused and goal oriented because they can anticipate their child’s next developmental level.”

Healthy Steps Services…

When you become a part of the Healthy Steps Program, we provide services specifically designed to meet your needs, including:

  • Home visits at key points in development
  • Enhanced well child visits at the clinic to answer specific questions about your child’s development or behavior
  • Child development screenings to monitor development at different stages
  • Printed materials and resource information that address a variety of child development issues
  • Linkage to community resources
  • Age appropriate books for you to share with your child through the Reach out and Read Program
  • Child development telephone information hotline

Making a Difference…

How your children develop depends on their environment, experiences and most importantly, the quality of their relationship with you, their parent.

Research shows that the first three years are a critical time in a child’s life. Interacting and responding to your infant by talking, cuddling, and smiling, will positively impact your child’s health, ability to learn, emotional and social development and sense of self.

Healthy Steps helps parents become confident and effective in their parenting abilities through ongoing support and guidance. Remember, the quality of time you spend with your child now will last a lifetime.
